mystery trip to quebec city
I wanted it to be a mystery, a surprise! Something exciting to look forward too. It ended up being the loveliest, most romantic and hilarious weekend together. First of all — it was f***ing freezing. Like -25 average temp… I was fresh back from Mexico and already whining and annoyingly cold in -10. I prepped myself mentally — picturing wool socks and wool long johns. I set up our airbnb perfectly so that we could walk everywhere because we’re keeping the budget RIGHT & TIGHT. I hope I always remember laughing at ourselves, hauling our suitcases in the snow/slush up steep af icy streets. I felt like I was in a Mr. Bean movie. It was now our mission to WALK EVERYWHERE and not spend a dime on ubers. Challenge accepted — we did it! The longest walk was a 20 min walk to the spa across the Plains of Abraham which included about a 100 step flight of stairs. Just hilarious.
One night we walked to the restaurant of Parkers choosing - Hono Izakaya in the Saint-Roch neighbourhood. Note: every time we “walked” somewhere we actually just chose to run: to stay warm and get there faster/less time in the freezing cold — this is both timely and just hilarious. OH — we were also not drinking all weekend so no hope of a sip of whiskey to warm up. On the way to the resto we had to walk down about a 60 steps staircase/alley. On the way back - WE RAN UP IT. My cardio is not where it used to be so I nearly vomited up all our delicious japanese tapas —- ouuuuu and matcha creme brulee… Kept it down though.
All in all - it was an amazing trip. From the excitement leading up to it / keeping it a secret, to the relaxing train ride there/back, to all the laughs we had whilst freezing outside. I couldn’t have had a better weekend.
